Drew Davies has announced the release of La Revanche, his first single in more than two years. Inspired by tales of betrayal, vengeance and obsession from the French romantic period, the new track arrives on today and signals a darker new chapter for the South Yorkshire artist.
Built on a sonic foundation of guitars, drums and synths, La Revanche delivers a brooding cinematic atmosphere reminiscent of ’90s gothic noir cinema. Drew’s passionate baritone cuts through the verses before the song explodes into a hard rock chorus, blending orchestration, electric guitar and classical guitar melodies into a dramatic finale.
Speaking about the single, Drew Davies said, “With La Revanche I went deep down the rabbit hole of dark, pseudo-gothic rock. Probably fitting given the song’s themes are ones of emancipation and revenge. I found my love of ’90s alternative rock soundtracks coming out in the orchestration. There are a few nods to The Crow, 12 Monkeys and even Elfman’s Batman in there.
“The song signals a turning point for me too in my records. It’s the first single I’ve released with my full live band, it brought a new level of energy and freshness to the work.”
Though born and bred in South Yorkshire, Drew Davies launched his musical career in London before taking his music across the UK and Europe. His work has been championed by BBC DJs including Mickey Bradley, Gary Crowley, Bruce Dickinson, Jericho Keys and the late Janice Long, while publications including CLASH, Louder Than War and Earmilk have also praised his work.
Following the release of his self-titled debut album in 2020 and sophomore record Holloway Nights in 2024, La Revanche arrives ahead of more music planned for 2026. “I’m working on the details,” Drew said, “but La Revanche is the opening shot from a wider EP or record I intend to release over 2026 and into 2027.”
