The Royal Mint has unveiled its first official UK commemorative coin celebrating Pink Floyd

The Royal Mint has unveiled the first official UK commemorative coin celebrating the enduring legacy of Pink Floyd. More than half a century after emerging from London’s underground music scene, Pink Floyd are being recognised as one of the most influential bands in rock history with a coin featuring the iconic prism artwork from The Dark Side Of The Moon.

Designed by Henry Gray, the reverse side of the coin places the famous prism at its centre, paying tribute to one of the most recognisable album designs ever created. Selected versions of the coin will also feature a rainbow prism effect that brings the artwork to life in full colour.

Rebecca Morgan, Director of Commemorative Coin at The Royal Mint, said described Pink Floyd as “one of those truly rare bands whose music and imagery have transcended generations and the moment you see this coin, you know exactly who it celebrates.

“The iconic prism is instantly recognisable to fans around the world, and Henry Gray has done a remarkable job of bringing it to life with the craft and detail this band deserves. Their influence on music, art and culture is immeasurable, and we’re incredibly proud that The Royal Mint can play its part in preserving that legacy forever.”

Pink Floyd join previous artists honoured in The Royal Mint’s Music Legends series, including David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Shirley Bassey and Paul McCartney.

Alongside the commemorative coin, The Royal Mint is also releasing a limited-edition plectrum available in gold, silver and dark chrome finishes. Inspired by The Dark Side Of The Moon, the plectrum pays tribute to David Gilmour’s legendary guitar work, including his celebrated solo on Time.

Formed in London in 1965 by Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, with David Gilmour joining in 1968, Pink Floyd helped define progressive and psychedelic rock with landmark albums including The Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall.

The Pink Floyd commemorative coin will be available from 14 May 2026, with prices starting from £18.50. For more details, visit royalmint.com/pinkfloyd.
