Elder, the torchbearers of heavy psychedelic rock, are back. The Massachusetts outfit has revealed their long-awaited follow-up to 2022's critically lauded Innate Passage, titled Through Zero, set for release May 29 through Blues Funeral Recordings (North America), Stickman Records (Europe/UK), and Bird's Robe (Australia).

Vocalist and guitarist Nick DiSalvo elaborates on the album's title and concept: "Through Zero is a term borrowed from engineering and the world of music. It describes the property of a frequency being able to pass through the zero point and continue into the negative.

"While it isn't a concept rooted in philosophy, it resonates with me on a conceptual level: the zero point is not an end, but a midpoint along a partially unseen path. Interpretation is open: the journey is the destination, beginnings and endings may be arbitrary, or perhaps reality is simply less linear than we tend to assume."

DiSalvo continues, hinting at the meditative and expansive nature of the record: "The album's six tracks explore these themes through the lens of life, death, hope, fear, and the gray areas in between. Life and death, frustration and fear, helplessness and hope – all of these exist along the same 'signal path.'"

Self-produced by the band and co-mixed with Richard Behrens, Through Zero promises a sonic journey that blends Elder's signature towering riffs and immersive atmospheres with influences reaching far beyond traditional rock. It's a record that stretches the boundaries of progressive psychedelia, delivering expansive soundscapes while remaining grounded in the band's heavy, hypnotic core.

Ahead of the release, Elder will take their new material on the road, with a summer European festival run followed by US shows in the fall. Highlights include Download Festival, Hellfest, Graspop Metal Meeting, and the Brutal Assault Festival, among many others. Tickets for all announced dates are available now.
