Canadian metal legends Voivod have issued an emotional call to fans worldwide, asking for support for Christine McDonald – the partner of frontman Denis "Snake" Bélanger – following her Stage 4 colorectal cancer diagnosis.

In a heartfelt statement shared with supporters, the band wrote: "We're reaching out today for someone that is part to the Voivod family.

"Christine McDonald, the partner of Denis 'Snake' Bélanger, was diagnosed in October with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. The cancer has spread, and while treatment is ongoing and showing some positive results, it is intensive and demanding.

"A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover medical supplies, travel, treatment costs, and living expenses during this time, as the situation has significantly impacted Christine's ability to work.

"It has also affected Denis' ability to maintain his regular work commitments, as much of his time is now devoted to supporting Christine through treatment and recovery. Together, this has created serious financial strain due to treatment-related expenses and lost income.

"If you are able to support, share, or contribute in any way, it would mean a great deal."

McDonald was diagnosed in October, and the cancer has since metastasized to her liver, ovary, and abdominal wall. While there have been encouraging signs from treatment, the road ahead remains grueling.

According to a GoFundMe page set up on her behalf, "The cancer has metastasized to her liver, ovary, and abdominal wall. While treatment has shown some positive results so far, it is intensive and ongoing: involving daily injections, medication, chemotherapy sessions, hospital visits, and numerous medical appointments."

The band underscored the physical and emotional toll the situation has taken – not just on McDonald, but on Bélanger as well.

"The cancer has spread, and while treatment is ongoing and showing some positive results, it is intensive and demanding."

Beyond the health battle, the financial impact has been severe. McDonald's ability to work has been significantly reduced, while Bélanger has scaled back his own professional commitments to focus on her care.

The GoFundMe explains: "Beyond the physical toll, this situation has significantly impacted Christine's ability to work. It has also affected Denis' ability to maintain his regular work commitments, as much of his time is now devoted to supporting Christine through treatment and recovery. Together, this has created serious financial strain due to treatment-related expenses and lost income."

The fundraiser aims to cover medical supplies, travel, treatment costs, and day-to-day living expenses – easing the burden so McDonald can concentrate fully on recovery.

In addition to the fundraiser, supporters can also back McDonald's work directly. An accomplished visual artist, she continues to create amid treatment; fans can purchase her original pieces through her official website as another way to contribute. Check that out here.
