Nergal is revisiting the earliest days of Behemoth on stage… just without Behemoth.
Nergal has announced he'll be teaming up with Icelandic black metal visionaries Misþyrming for an exclusive performance of Behemoth's 1995 debut album Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) at Beyond the Gates 2026 in Bergen, Norway. The press release also notes Nergal and Misþyrming are set to announce "a series of exclusive festival appearances across Europe," though no other dates have yet surfaced.
And I guess it does make sense for Nergal to do this celebration however he wants, considering Sventevith (Storming Near the Baltic) is all him minus the drums – those were performed by Behemoth drummer Baal Ravenlock, who was in the band between 1991 and 1996. Though it does feel weird that Nergal is celebrating Behemoth without Behemoth, as they're still an active band.
Beyond the Gates 2026 will be held between July 29 and August 1 in the city center of Bergen, using several venues spread across town, including the legendary Grieghallen and USF Verftet. The festival will so far fear Emperor reuniting with Mortiis and Faust, the first ever Beherit show in Norway, this Nergal thing, and more! Tickets are available here.
