Swedish occult rock heavyweights Ghost were forced to cancel the first of their three scheduled Mexico City shows after frontman Tobias Forge fell ill with food poisoning.
The band had been set to take the stage at the Palacio De Los Deportes on Tuesday night (September 23), but issued a last-minute statement confirming the cancellation. Forge, who currently performs as masked frontman Papa V Perpetua, was unable to play due to his condition.
Ghost's statement read: "It is with deep regret that we must inform you the Ghost show tonight, September 23, has been cancelled. Tobias Forge is suffering from food poisoning, which makes it impossible for the band to perform. The concerts scheduled for September 24 and 25 will take place as planned.
"If you purchased your tickets online, your refund will be automatically processed to the card used for the purchase, according to the timelines set by your banking institution. If you purchased your tickets at Ticketmaster outlets, you may request your refund starting on September 26 at the same location where you made your purchase."
The band's two remaining shows at Palacio De Los Deportes — tonight (September 24) and Thursday (September 25) — are still confirmed to proceed as scheduled.
Speaking of Ghost, they're set to release a 10th anniversary version of Meliora on October 17 and available now for pre-order here.
The new deluxe 10th anniversary edition of Meliora arrives as a 15-song 2xLP pressed on a range of color vinyl options, housed in a double wide spine jacket. This celebratory edition also includes a commemorative Papa III Mummy Dust buck — a fitting nod to the era's iconic stage flair.
