AT THE GATES Issues Statement On TOMAS LINDBERG's Death

The metal world is currently mourning the loss of legendary At The Gates vocalist Tomas Lindberg, who died following a battle with adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC). Lindberg's death was originally confirmed by his family to the news to Swedish public broadcaster SVT Nyheter. Now At The Gates has issued a heartbreaking statement on the death of Tomas Lindberg, saying he died this morning "following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment."

"Tomas passed away this morning following complications related to his ongoing cancer treatment," wrote At The Gates. "Despite intensive medical efforts, his life could not be saved. Tomas – You were an inspiration to us all. A true friend, both compassionate & sympathetic. You will always be remembered for your generosity and your creative spirit. You will be eternally missed. Forever in our hearts."

Lindberg was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive cancer in December 2023, which led to major surgery to remove part of the roof of his mouth, followed by two months of radiation. Initially on a slow path to recovery, traces of the cancer returned in early 2025. By May of that year, complications placed him in long-term care, and his bandmates later revealed he was receiving "around-the-clock" treatment.
