Alice In Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell has revealed the band are reassessing their next moves following a difficult year of canceled shows and health concerns. Speaking with Cleveland.com, Cantrell explained that while he's finishing up the cycle for his solo album I Want Blood, the group's plans for 2025 remain on hold:

"We're just wrapping the I Want Blood chapter, then I'll take the winter off and see where we're at. [Alice In Chains] intended to work but had a little bit of a health scare with Sean [Kinney, drummer], so we had to cancel some shows. We also had a tour planned for, like, right now that kind of fell through.

"So we had some bad luck; we planned on doing much more this year, but it just didn't work out. We'll take a look at it again probably early next year and figure out what we're gonna do, whether go in and make another record or do some shows — or both."

Back in May 2025, Alice In Chains abruptly pulled the plug on all scheduled concerts after drummer Sean Kinney experienced medical complications. A May 8 show had already been canceled before the band officially withdrew from major festival appearances at MMRBQ (Camden, NJ), Sonic Temple (Columbus, OH), and Welcome To Rockville (Daytona Beach, FL), as well as planned headlining dates in Nashville, TN and Dothan, AL.

While Kinney's exact condition has not been disclosed, Cantrell's comments suggest the drummer is on the mend. For now, the band's immediate future — whether a return to the studio or a rescheduled tour — remains undecided, but early 2026 is being eyed as a potential restart. Alice In Chains' most recent studio album, Rainier Fog, arrived in 2018.
