WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch has landed in hot water after a controversial promo on last night's (August 25) episode of WWE Raw in Birmingham, UK. Playing into her heel persona, the Irish wrestling star took a direct shot at the city — and its most famous musical son, the late Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away just a month ago.
Standing in the ring, Lynch sneered at the crowd: "I am not wrestling in Birmingham. Yeah, the only good thing that came out of here died a month ago. But in fairness to Ozzy Osbourne, he had the good sense to move to LA, a proper city. Because if I lived in Birmingham I'd die too."
The remark, clearly designed to rile up the hometown audience, has sparked outrage beyond the arena — including from Ozzy's daughter Kelly Osbourne, who fired back on social media.
Kelly, who has been (rightfully) outspoken in defending her father's legacy, publicly blasted Lynch for the remark: "[Becky Lynch], you are a disrespectful dirtbag! Birmingham would not piss on you if you were on fire. #birminghamforever shame on the @wwe for allowing such things to be said about my father and his home!!!"
The backlash stings all the more given Ozzy Osbourne's own history with WWE. The Black Sabbath icon made multiple appearances with the company, including a 1986 WrestleMania 2 cameo, and was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame's celebrity wing in 2021. He remained a beloved figure among both wrestling and rock fans, with his recent passing in July at age 76 drawing tributes from across the entertainment world.
As of now, neither WWE nor Becky Lynch herself has publicly addressed Kelly Osbourne's comments. Also, too soon man – let's maybe not be a dick about Ozzy's death.
