Morris Kolontyrsky, best known for his work as guitarist in progressive death metal visionaries Blood Incantation, is stepping into uncharted territory with his first solo album, Origination, out via Projekt Records on October 10.

Across its 69 minutes of immersive soundscapes, Kolontyrsky channels his love for shimmering textures, Krautrock traditions, drone, and progressive experimentation into a mesmerizing guitar-driven journey that feels both otherworldly and deeply personal.

Having spent nearly 15 years pushing boundaries with Blood Incantation — a band unafraid to defy expectation, as evidenced by their 2022 ambient opus Timewave ZeroKolontyrsky now goes even further in his exploration of sonic expansion. Where fans might expect his signature confrontational riffing, Origination instead drifts between ghostly atmospheres, radiant harmonics, and fiery but understated shredding, showing how the guitar can serve as both instrument and environment.

The album strikes a balance between hypnotic ambience and cosmic intensity. Tracks like "Cyclical Behaviour" and "Expanding and Contracting" mix floating textures with relentless riff structures, while "Infiniscape," "Returning," and "Weaving of Fields" lean into vast, spectral drones. Meanwhile, "Spiraling Into Continuous Self" layers minimalist pulses and tonal cascades, evoking the sensation of computerized rainfall over a Cold War-era backdrop.

Written and recorded in his home studio in early 2025, Kolontyrsky employed an arsenal of gear including a Roland JP-8000, Korg Minilogue, Moog MicroMoog, Soma Lyra-8, Soma Cosmos, and his trusted B.C. Rich Mockingbird. Legendary ambient pioneer Steve Roach also contributed, weaving his signature deep-space drones and textures into the mix, amplifying the record's cosmic pull.

While the lineage of experimental guitarists like Robert Fripp, Manuel Göttsching, and Steve Hillage looms large, Kolontyrsky's Origination is not simply another guitarist's detour into abstraction. It is a fully realized vision — one that embraces the unpredictable, expands beyond genre, and reflects an artist unafraid to chase inspiration wherever it leads.
