Japanese experimental heavyweights Boris are honoring two of their most beloved and boundary-pushing records with lavish 20th anniversary reissues. On October 17, 2025, Relapse Records will release special editions of Pink and dronevil, both landmark albums that helped establish Boris as one of the most daring and unpredictable forces in underground music.
First released in 2005, Pink remains Boris' most celebrated crossover work — a kaleidoscopic blend of sludge, doom, shoegaze, punk, and noise rock that won international acclaim. It captured the Japanese trio at their most accessible and ferocious, opening new doors to Western audiences and cementing the band's cult legacy. The 20th Anniversary Reissue offers fans a chance to experience Pink in newly expanded form:
- 2XLP edition featuring the original CD sequence on vinyl for the first time ever
- Exclusive D-side etching for collectors
- Deluxe 6XLP box set including the riginal vinyl version of Pink, expanded "Forbidden Tracks" from the original sessions, never-before-released live recordings, and rough mixes and unreleased material
- The box set also features Pink performed in its entirety, recorded live at Shindata Fever on September 24, 2016 — a powerful snapshot of the album's enduring live presence.
Released the same year, dronevil was an audacious experiment — two separate albums designed to be played simultaneously. One half explored soaring drone and ambient textures, while the other delivered chaotic, distorted rock 'n' roll. Together, they created a dense and immersive soundscape that highlighted Boris' dual musical personalities.
For the first time ever, dronevil will be available as a joint 2XLP mix edition, titled dronevil – example –. This new format brings the two halves into a single vinyl experience while retaining the album's otherworldly contrasts. Pre-orders for both are available here.
To mark the milestone, Boris will embark on a North American 20th Anniversary Tour this October and November. The shows will feature the original three-piece lineup from the Pink era, with the band performing Pink in full. Fans can expect the very setlist that, back in 2005, "boldly repainted the map of heavy rock with its vivid sonic colors." Get your tickets here.
