Just days after Black Sabbath's historic final performance at Back to the Beginning in Birmingham, legendary guitarist Tony Iommi has revealed he's deep into work on a new solo album — his first full-length project in years.

During a July 8 appearance on SiriusXM's Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Iommi shared that the album had been in progress before the monumental Sabbath reunion demanded his full attention. "I was doing my own album until [the Back To The Beginning event] came up," he explained. "Then, of course, I had to stop and concentrate on the Sabbath performance. But I'm continuing next week on trying to finish off what I started."

Initially conceived as an instrumental record, the album has since taken a new turn. "I've got some instrumental stuff," Iommi said, "but then I thought, ‘Oh, I wanna try it with a singer.'" He confirmed there's currently one vocalist involved, though he hasn't yet decided if the final product will feature multiple guest singers similar to his 2000 release Iommi, which featured collaborations with artists like Dave Grohl, Henry Rollins, and Serj Tankian.

In the same interview, Iommi also revealed that he's still working on a Born Again remix and remaster. Born Again is Black Sabbath's eleventh studio album originally released in 1983, and is the only one to feature former Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan on lead vocals. Italso served as the final studio album featuring original members Geezer Butler and Bill Ward until later reunions in the '90s

"Yeah, we've got it all sort of ready to go and start work on it, but I want to finish off what I've got here and then definitely have a go at Born Again," he said. "I think the guys want me to have a go at it as well. Certainly Ian Gillan does."

Iommi continued: "We got a lot of different stuff in the pipeline that's, you know, filtering through now. You know what even, I dunno what's coming, what's going on there because there's that many different things happening and you know, when we're actually remastering different albums and I don’t know which one's coming out next. It's got all confusing for me because all these other things are popping up in between that. So I've sort of took me eye off it for a bit, you know, but we'll get back there."
