It's been a landmark stretch for alternative metal veterans Deftones. Decades into their career, the Sacramento natives continue to captivate new generations of fans — evidenced by sold-out arena tours, a growing digital footprint, and the fact that every young band wants to be them these days. Now Deftones has hit another milestone: a wave of new platinum and gold certifications in the United States.
On July 3, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) awarded Deftones multiple new single certifications, highlighting the enduring appeal of their discography. Leading the charge is their iconic track "Change (In the House of Flies)," which has now officially reached 4× platinum status. Here's the full list of RIAA certifications awarded to Deftones as of July 3:
- "Change (In the House of Flies)" – 4× Platinum
- "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" – 2× Platinum
- "My Own Summer (Shove It)" – 2× Platinum
- "Passenger" (feat. Maynard James Keenan) – Platinum
- "Rosemary" – Platinum
- "Cherry Waves" – Platinum
- "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want" (The Smiths cover) – Gold
- "Hole in the Earth" – Gold
- "Entombed" – Gold
- "Minerva" – Gold
- "Beware" – Gold
- "Around the Fur" – Gold
- "Beauty School" – Gold
In the U.S., a gold certification represents 500,000 units, while platinum signifies 1 million units. These figures now include digital performance: 10 permanent track downloads count as one unit, and 1,500 on-demand audio or video streams from an album equal one unit toward certification.
Deftones recently announced the extension of their 2025 North American Tour with a second leg featuring Idles, Phantogram, and The Barbarians Of California (depending on which dates you attend) – presumably in support of their new album whose first single might be out next week.
This leg of the tour kicks off on August 22 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC and continues in arenas across Canada and the United States, including Rocket Arena in Cleveland, OH on September 10 and Ball Arena in Denver, CO on September 15. Tickets are available here.
