Ashes Of Ares – the band featuring former Iced Earth vocalist Matt Barlow and bassist Freddie Vidales – is headed out on the road this September and October to play Iced Earth's 1996 record The Dark Saga. The band announced the tour yesterday, and as since revealed the first date for October 3 and 4 at the Keep It True festival happening in Germany.

It's worth noting that Barlow is the only one that performed on The Dark Saga, but whatever – that man could sing a phone book and I'd probably listen to it.

"Happy Wednesday! – Here is a teaser announcement that an announcement is coming: A dream of many fans is now coming true, as the European audience will have the opportunity to hear and witness the entire epic The Dark Saga album on stage," wrote Ashes Of Ares on April 23.

"The monumental 1996 album that has brought so many memories and joy to metal fans will be played from start to finish, yes all 10 songs, along with songs from our forthcoming album. Be sure to check back here tomorrow, when we will announce our first date in October. Guess where this is going to be."

As for actual Iced Earth, who knows and who cares. Jon Schaffer learned nothing from his arrest and legal tribulations after January 6, 2020 and is all Jesus-ey now anyway. Give me Ashes Of Ares playing Iced Earth over Iced Earth playing Iced Earth these days, any day.
