Legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads tragically died in a plane crash on March 19, 1982 alongside makeup artist Rachel Youngblood private pilot Andrew Aycock. The crash occurred when the plane attempted to "buzz" the tour bus containing members of Ozzy Osbourne's touring party. The plane's wing clipped the bus and slammed into a nearby garage, killing all three aboard. Rhoads was 25 years old.

On the anniversary of his death, Osbourne has shared the following touching message in memory of Rhoads: "Randy Rhoads was quite possibly the best composer & musician that I have ever met in my life. He came into my life like a bolt of lightning and as such he was gone again. I consider my self one of the luckiest men alive to have not only met him but also I had the great honor of being able to work with him. I will cherish the time I spent with him till the day I die LONG LIVE RANDY RHOADS. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL. I LOVE YOU ALL."

Despite his short career, Rhoads left behind four highly influential records – Quiet Riot's 1977 self-titled and Quiet Riot II from 1978, as well as Blizzard Of Ozz in 1980 and Diary Of A Madman in 1981 with Ozzy Osbourne.
