Playing Dimebag Darrell's guitar parts is hard enough. Doing it with a broken hand is something else. Pantera guitarist Zakk Wylde got to experience that exact unfortunate situation recently, as he explained to Kerrang! – and it all started when he broke his hand in the dumbest way possible.
"I broke my hand when we were doing the Pantera celebration, doing the roulette wheel for the meet and greets," said Wylde. "I spin the wheel, and if they win… well, everyone's a winner all the time. Anyway, the ball bounced out, I went to go grab it, and I smashed my hand on the table and broke it.
"I played with three fingers for the rest of the tour – a month and a half! I think that was Dime [legendary late guitarist Dimebag Darrell] having fun at my expense. It's already hard enough to play his stuff, and he must have been like, 'I'll just add this to the mix for the comedy…'"
Pantera will hit the road (with Wylde and an unbroken hand) this July for a 2025 US Summer amphitheater tour featuring openers Amon Amarth. The tour kicks off in all its stoming heaviness on July 15 in Burgettstown, PA at The Pavilion at Star Lake and wraps up on September 13 in West Palm Beach, FL at the iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre.
