TOBIAS FORGE Explains Why GHOST's Skeletá Doesn't Have Any Instrumental Songs

Ghost just announced their new record Skeletá for April 25 and showed off Papa V Perpetua in all his Satanic glory with a new single. Of course fans are clamoring to know more about Skeletá and all its dark glories, and we've got answers! Well, at least one answer.

In an interview with Planet Rock, Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge revealed that Skeletá will not have any instrumental tracks. Forge said that was an intentional choice coming into the writing process of Skeletá, and that it certainly presented some challenges along the way.

"There was one dogmatic little rule with this record was that it was going to be ten songs with vocals. As opposed to the previous records which had instrumental [songs]. We already have a 'Miasma' so we don't really need that. I'm not going to write an instrumental for the sake of having an instrumental. But it might be interesting to write a record from start to finish that starts with vocals, ends with vocals, and have vocal songs.

"But what that did do was put a little added pressure to let all the songs allow for there to be instrumentalism that would sort of weigh out and balance the lack of instrumental tracks. That meant that in my head… if a song is asking to be five minutes long, let it be that. If it's not radio format, fine. It's just a risk I was willing to take."

Pre-orders for Skeletá are available here. Ghost's world tour also kicks off on April 15. Ghost will kick the tour off at the AO Arena in Manchester, UK and (so far) wrap things up on September 25 at the Palacio De Los Deportes in Mexico City, MX. Love it. Tickets are available here.
