Exodus recently split with longtime vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza (or fired him if you ask Souza), and announced their reunion with frontman Rob Dukes. In a new interview with Mark Strigl, Dukes said he was just as surprised as anyone about coming back to Exodus despite having kept in touch with the band over the years.

"I was as surprised as you, man. I mean, when I got the call… Me and Gary didn't speak as much, but me and Tom [Hunting] talk all the time. Me and Lee [Altus] constantly talk about hockey and give each other shit – I'm a Rangers fan; he's a Flyers fan – so we're always in contact, especially during hockey season. And then, like I said, man, it came out of nowhere for myself too."

Dukes continued: "I took a day and decided, 'Yeah, okay, I can make it work.' 'Cause I have to put my life on hold – the life I've been building for 10 years as a car builder and a welder. But I sat down with the people I work for and the people I work with and I explained the situation and they were all like, 'Yeah! Go do it, man. You only live once.' And I was like, 'Yeah, cool. That's exactly how I was thinking about it.' So, it all worked out, man. And everybody's stoked and happy."

Souza had a few stints with Exodus over the years between 1986 and 1993, from 2002 to 2004, and then again from 2014 to present day. Dukes fronted Exodus in Souza's absence between 2005 and 2014, and sang on Exodus' albums from Shovel Headed Kill Machine in 2005 to Exhibit B: The Human Condition in 2010.

Exodus is also set to celebrate 40 years of their debut album Bonded By Blood this April with two Bay Area shows. The shows feature Death Angel and Nukem as the openers for both nights, with Blind Illusion as a guest on the first night and Hirax on the second night. Those dates are:

4/25 Berkeley, CA UC Theatre
4/26 Anaheim, CA House of Blues
