Ray Noir has released the dark Valentine’s anthem Razorblade Romance, blending raw industrial rock with defiant emotion. Co-written by Noir, Steve Stevens and Madeleine Wood, the song marks survival in a track.
“This song feels like planning my own funeral,” Ray Noir told us. Noir, a queer POC artist raised in Norway’s Metal scene, delivers Razorblade Romance as a fight song against the rigid masculinity that nearly crushed him.
“Society tries to shame queer people to death,” Noir says. “But we endure. We survive.” Noir says that leaving his homeland was the only way to reclaim his true self, but the scars remain.
With haunting lyrics and Steve Stevens’ blistering guitar, Razorblade Romance is dark, daring, and unforgettable.
MetalTalk caught Ray Noir at The Underworld last August, and live he does not disappoint. “This was my first time seeing Ray Noir live,” Theo A-Mullis wrote for MetalTalk. “He has great stage presence and skillfully worked the crowd with regular interaction, keeping everyone involved and building their energy.” A raucous collab with doom trap pioneer Mimi Barks for YMATD saw the first pit of the evening.

Ray Noir’s 2024 mixtape Scorpio smashed through with over 130K Spotify streams (and counting), sold-out shows, and a profile that’s quickly becoming unstoppable. You can catch Ray at The Black Heart (April 3, 2025), Resistanz Festival (April 18, 2025), followed by a headlining show in Oslo (October 3, 2025).
For today, Razorblade Romance should be in your ears. “This anthem is for all the queer souls in the alt scene who feel like outsiders,” Noir says.
