In a recent interview with Gold Derby, Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford discussed the potential for a biopic about the band and who he might want to play him in it. When asked about the possibility, Halford responded “I’ve no idea, no idea. That’s the furthest thing from my mind. I mean, I’ve yet to see. The good news is as Robbie Williams has just shown us you could be a chimpanzee but that would be great. Let’s think of me, let’s think of me as some kind of exotic creature.”
When the interviewer suggested Timothée Chalamet as a possible candidate, mentioning his portrayal of Bob Dylan, Halford praised the actor. “He is such a beautiful actor and he’s got so much talent, and he can turn his hand to anything. I’d be very happy it was Timothée and I’ll give him all of my black country yam yam type of cadence in the way I speak. So we’ll see, who knows? Anything is possible,” Halford added.
Back in 2019, Halford had mentioned that Judas Priest’s story would make a great biopic. “I think Judas Priest has had a very interesting life,” he told Stuff in an interview. “We’ve certainly got some stories to tell. We’ve certainly had a lot of incidents on the road, that’s for sure. … I also had to hide a gay guy like Freddie [Mercury] for all those years.” Halford publicly confirmed his sexuality in 1998 after years of fearing metal fans wouldn’t accept him.
Halford praised Rami Malek’s portrayal of Mercury in ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ but added, “Who could be the metal god? I haven’t got a clue. I thought Rami did a fantastic job of Freddie’s persona, charisma. But I’m sure there’s another actor out there who could get the leather and whips and chains on,” he added.
Although there are no official plans for the biopic yet, Halford is open to whatever happens.
