Les Claypool recently posted new videos from Primus’ drummer auditions on Instagram, highlighting some incredible names involved in the process, such as Maynard James Keenan and Danny Carey. Among the competitors, Rory Dolan and Thomas Pridgen, in particular, caught the attention of fans.

The drummers’ followers were quick to react in the comments section, expressing their opinions about them not being immediately chosen. “Just playing with Les and Ler is an insane honor, but if you don’t get the gig, I’m gonna flip a table,” one fan wrote under Dolan’s post.

To Pridgen, one comment read, “Dude, we want you in the band. So many great drummers! Let’s go!” while another added, “I hope you get the spot. Your style is the most logical fit.”

Primus began the search for a new drummer last year after Tim Alexander left the band, citing a loss of passion. “We are currently taking submissions from all points in the universe for the position of Primus drummer/percussionist,” the official audition announcement stated.

“Seeking a well-mannered, affable individual with original sensibility and aesthetic, possessing a desire to open new doors in the creative world. Flashy chops are wonderful, but groove, pocket, and the ability to listen, react, and contribute to the musical conversation is a must.”

Primus is set to return to the stage with Tool’s Danny Carey during festival dates in the Dominican Republic this March. They next plan to kick off a joint tour with Puscifer and A Perfect Circle in April.
