Dino Cazares has confirmed the story about an ashtray being thrown at Trent Reznor, recalling the incident while interacting with fans on X.

Cazares asked his followers who he should collaborate with, and a fan mentioned Reznor. Another user responded, advising to ‘avoid the man’ for reasons unrelated to music. “NO. Not for musical reasons. Enjoy his music, avoid the man. Dino may know why Trent famously went missing for months. Was from Paul Raven’s LA backyard, swift gentleman’s justice. Trent reappeared when knew no cops or mobs waiting.” They also shared a GIF of a child being hit with a stone, implying the ashtray incident.

Cazares clarified that the ashtray incident occurred in 2005 during the recording of the Roadrunner United project. It involved Joey Jordison, Matt Heafy of Trivium, Cazares, Robb Flynn of Machine Head, and Slipknot’s Paul Gray.

When the user asked if Trent Reznor had an ashtray thrown at him by Paul Raven during the Roadrunner United sessions, Cazares responded, “Paul Raven? Him and Trent Reznor had nothing to do with RR United. But u might be thinking of Paul [Gray].”

Reznor has not commented on the incident, and there’s no official information about it. It’s also important to note that Reznor wasn’t involved in Roadrunner United.

Roadrunner United resulted in the release of The All-Star Sessions on October 11, 2005. To celebrate the album and the label’s anniversary, a concert took place on December 15, 2005, at the Nokia Theater in New York City. The event featured musicians from past and present Roadrunner bands, as well as others who weren’t part of the album.
