Down has returned to the studio to begin recording a new album, marking their first release in 17 years, as shown in recent photos shared on Kirk Windstein’s Facebook page. The follow-up to ‘Down III: Over the Under’ is expected to be released later this year, although an official date has not been announced.
In a recent chat with That Metal Interview, Windstein gave an update on the band’s progress: “I’ve been in Down world [for the last few months] kinda writing with Down and finishing up the writing for the album that’s [gonna come] out [in 2025] at some point… We’ve got 10 new songs, man. It’s awesome.”
The band’s latest performance was a makeup show held on September 27, 2024, at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino in Mescalero, New Mexico. This concert was originally scheduled for June 20, 2024, but was postponed due to wildfires in the area that created safety concerns.
When the June concert was announced, it was revealed that Kirk Windstein would not be performing due to commitments with his other band, Crowbar. Bobby Landgraf stepped in for those shows. Windstein, however, rejoined the band for the rescheduled September performance.
Looking ahead, Down is slated to perform at the Milwaukee Metal Fest in May as part of their 2025 tour. The tour, which kicks off in March, will include Danzig, Cro-Mags, and Abbath.
