The music world is mourning the loss of Casey Chaos, one of the most electrifying performers to ever grace punk and Heavy Metal stages. Renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to music over the past three decades, Casey, born Karim Chmielnski, passed away at the age of 54.
Casey Chaos’s journey began in Trenton, NY, and took shape in Melbourne, FL, where his exposure to hardcore legends Black Flag became the catalyst for a trailblazing career. His first band, Casey & The Skatepunx, soon evolved into Disorderly Conduct, making an indelible mark on the Florida punk scene with Casey’s unique performance style.
In 1990, Casey moved to Los Angeles, founding Amen, a group that became a defining force in late 1990s Metal. Albums like Amen, We Have Come For Your Parents, and Death Before Musick showcased their raw energy and resonated deeply with fans. Casey also collaborated with seminal acts like Christian Death, contributing to their Iconologia album and performing at their iconic reunion show in 1993.
Casey’s live performances were legendary, as recalled by Cleopatra Records head Brian Perera. “I had the privilege of working with Casey during his unforgettable live performance with Christian Death at the American Legion Hall back in 1993,” Perera said.
“Walking into the hall with my good friend Matt Green and my wife, Yvonne, was an experience I’ll never forget—especially seeing Nicolas Cage sitting front-row centre, completely captivated.”
In 2006, Casey Chaos received a Grammy Award in recognition of his participation as a songwriter on the Grammy Award-winning recording B.Y.O.B.
“Casey wasn’t just an extraordinary musician,” Perera said. “He truly lived and breathed the lifestyle.
“May he rest in peace alongside Rozz Williams and the many tortured souls we admire and respect.”
