Phil Collins sat down with Drumeo to talk about his journey with Genesis and how it ended in 2022.

The drummer was asked if it was a tough decision to end the final tour and whether he misses being on the road. “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit. I’m 71, I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock,” he replied.

“If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything. If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks and then I will have a crack at it but I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles,” the drummer added.

Collins has stayed out of the spotlight since Genesis’ final show in March 2022. He couldn’t drum on the tour because of a dislocated vertebra, nerve damage, and foot fractures.

In August, Simon Napier-Bell shared some positive news with fans. “Yesterday we filmed Phil Collins at his house by Lake Geneva. He was in top form, full of wicked stories, hugely fun,” he shared. “And he’s just had his studio revamped. For sure, before too long we’re going to hear some new music.”

Even with this positive update, some fans voiced their concerns about his health. “Great news that he’s doing music. He still looks frail. What’s his illness? I’ve been out of the loop,” one person wrote.

Others pointed out that Collins looked better than in previous photos.

The release date of the Marquee Club documentary hasn’t been announced yet.
