Dutch blackened death metal band, Onheil, is returning to its black metal roots to kick off its 25th anniversary year. The band is releasing a digitally remastered version of the demo track, “My Evil Side”, originally featured on their long-sold-out 1999 demo Sterf. With its raw and primitive sound, this track offers a glimpse into Onheil’s early years. Current fans and supporters can now experience this piece of history thanks to the re-release by Sweden’s Black Lion Records.
The re-release is accompanied by a music video composed largely of footage from Onheil's first three years, when some band members were still in their teenage years. The video centers on their second live show and features shots from an unfinished music video, along with dark, ritualistic black metal imagery.
The “My Evil Side” single and music video mark the beginning of Onheil’s celebratory “25 Years of Onheil” campaign. This anniversary year promises to offer fans, known as The Omega Legions, a deeper insight into the band’s history. More unreleased and rare music, photos, and videos from their journey will be shared through their social media channels, and fans are encouraged to stay connected for the latest updates.
Onheil will also perform live shows and do tours during the anniversary, including special old-school sets featuring tracks exclusively from their demos and their debut album, Razor.
After overcoming lineup changes and Covid setbacks, Onheil made a return in June 2023 with their album In Black Ashes, released by Black Lion Records. This “furious yet melodic” comeback album received high praise from the metal media. Legendary producer Dan Swanö (Dissection, Opeth, Dark Funeral, Bloodbath, Marduk, Insomnium) handled the mixing and mastering at Unisound Studios, while vocals and drums were recorded by Jonathan Merrelaar at Red Pack Studios (Picture). Guitar recordings were assisted by Bart Hennephof (Textures) at Creative Music Lab.
