Born from a mix of spontaneity and a wicked sense of humour, the guitarist Jan Akkerman played it as a send-up of all the rock bands of his time. He wrote it as a joke to take the piss out of them a bit and in the process, he created a rock classic that could hold its own alongside his contemporaries.
