In a recent interview on Real America’s Voice, Ted Nugent’s wife, Shemane, spoke with actor John Schneider, criticizing rock musicians who avoid discussing politics.
“There are a lot of a-list rock and roll musicians who refuse to get involved in politics because it’s gonna hurt their ticket sales. I’m sure you know some of those people too,” Shemane told Schneider. “What was it that made you say, ‘Screw it, I’m gonna do it,’?”
Schneider responded, “This is not a matter of politics right now. This is a matter of the life and death of our country. It’s a matter of the freedom or enshacklement of our children and our grandchildren and our great-grandchildren. We’re old enough now that we understand that great-grandchildren aren’t something somebody else has. So we’ve got to do something.”
“If you make a choice to not say anything today because you’re afraid of diminishing ticket sales, then I don’t think you should sell another record anyway,” he added.
Shemane’s husband, Ted Nugent, is known for his outspoken political views. Other musicians have also shared their political beliefs, some even telling fans not to listen if they disagree. For example, former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach told a fan who disagreed with his politics but liked his music, “So you trust JD Vance to lead you and your country then? Please stop listening to my music.”
Other rockers have also weighed in on Nugent’s approach. “He’s a really great guitar player, in my eyes. And people put him down for his politics. But you know what? He’s very vocal about it, and I kind of agree with him,” said Carmine Appice in July. “To be that vocal… It’s America. To be able to have your freedom to say whatever you want and do whatever you want. And his audience is right with him,”
Ted Nugent’s latest performance was at OC Bike Fest 2024 on September 13.
