The Ghost Inside - O2 Academy Islington - 16 October 2024

The Ghost Inside closed the UK leg of their Searching For Solace Tour at London’s O2 Academy Islington. With a show that was both intense and deep, the band are now encamped in Europe and hit Hamburg tonight. Joining The Ghost Inside in London were Gideon and Boundaries.

The Ghost Inside were certainly the most anticipated band of the night. As soon as drummer Andrew Tkaczyk hit the stage, the crowd was already going nuts, getting hyped for what turned out to be one of the most incredible sets I have ever witnessed.

They kicked things off with Death Grip, and from that moment, the crowd went absolutely wild. The energy never dropped for a second. People were moshing like crazy but still looking out for each other, which was awesome to see.

This concert was not just intense. It was deep. I have never seen a band connect with their fans the way The Ghost Inside did this night. Jonathan Vigil, the vocalist, spent the whole night thanking the crowd, visibly proud of how far they have come, especially after their life-changing accident in 2015 that left their future in limbo.

Vigil’s gratitude and the way he talked about their journey made the whole thing feel personal as if we were part of their story.

Andrew Tkaczyk’s performance was straight-up mind-blowing. After losing a leg in the accident, he’s proven that if you’re hungry enough and driven by passion, you can overcome anything. The crowd gave him a much-deserved five-minute round of applause because, honestly, he crushed it. The fact that he could still drum like that, despite everything, was seriously inspiring.

Despite everything they have been through, The Ghost Inside were phenomenal. Their intensity, energy, crushing breakdowns, and emotional lyrics created a raw, personal experience. The atmosphere flipped between all-out chaos during the moshing and these quieter moments of reflection, giving the set a perfect balance.

One of the most memorable parts of the night was during Pressure Point when Vigil got the whole crowd to scream, “Fuck this!” over and over. The song digs deep into themes of frustration, anger, and betrayal, touching on what it feels like to be pushed to your breaking point by people who have wronged you. The way Vigil introduced it felt like a powerful release, setting the stage for one of their heaviest, most aggressive performances.

They also threw it back with old favourites like Out of Control, Faith Or Forgiveness, Between The Lines, and Engine 45, and the crowd was all in, singing every word. It was clear that these songs still mean the world to their fans.

Overall, it was an incredibly emotional and unforgettable night easily the highlight of their UK tour. You could feel that this show meant a lot to the band, and in my opinion, they are humble and grateful guys who deserve every bit of success they have earned.

Gideon

Gideon took the stage next, kicking things off with Bite Down. The vocalist, decked out in cowboy boots and a hat, came out swinging with harsh, guttural screams packed with power and raw emotion.

From the start, the band locked in with the crowd, feeding off the energy in the room. They threw down some old tracks that still hit just as hard, sending the crowd into madness. Songs like Damned If I Do and More Power, More Pain stood out with their aggressive riffs, deep lyrics, and the constant back-and-forth with the fans.

The frontman had everyone moshing, crowd surfing, and shouting along to every chorus.

At one point, the energy in the room hit another level when the vocalist brought out Nathan Calcagno (Boundaries’ bassist and backup vocalist) for a feature on Too Much Is Never Enough. That moment added even more intensity to an already powerful set—two vocalists going hard just pushed the crowd over the edge.

As the set started to wind down, McWhorter dropped the news that Gideon would be back in London in January, getting the crowd hyped for more. They wrapped up with No Love/No One, leaving the stage in a blaze of chaos, closing out another killer night of their UK tour.

People were buzzing as they left, still riding the high from such a raw, heavy performance.

Boundaries

Another week, another UK tour in the bag and Boundaries sure as hell know how to end things with a bang. They kicked off the night with A Pale Light Lingers, wasting no time and hitting the crowd right in the gut with raw screams that set the place on fire.

Although Boundaries is not typically my cup of tea, their performance completely won me over. From the haunting guitar riffs in My Body Is A Cage to the chaotic drumming and thunderous breakdowns in tracks like Realize And Rebuild and Turning Hate Into Rage, the band left no doubt about their talent.

Their live performance did not just replicate their studio sound. It amplified it, creating an atmosphere where every note hit harder, and every scream seemed to resonate deeper. Their stage presence was magnetic, commanding the crowd’s full attention from start to finish.

What really struck me, though, was the raw emotion behind all the chaos. Boundaries aren’t just about being heavy for the sake of it; there’s some real pain and intensity in their music. You could feel the emotion pouring out of them, and the crowd was right there with them, feeding off that energy.

They are a part of this new wave of bands that are heavy as hell but also bring a lot of emotional weight to their sound.

In short, if you love chaos and heavy music that hits you in the gut and the heart, Boundaries delivered big time. It was a brutal, cathartic, and unforgettable set.
