In a recent interview with Eddie Trunk, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello addressed rumors about the band’s future. When asked if RATM is done, he said, “If there is ever any news about Rage Against The Machine, you will hear from all four members of Rage Against The Machine. Period.”
“I said if there is any news ever about Rage Against The Machine, you will not hear from one person, Tom Morello on the Eddie Trunk Show, you will hear it from the four guys of the band,” he added. When Trunk pushed for more, Morello responded, “Anytime you wanna go to the next question.”
Bassist Tim Commerford shared a similar view. In an interview with Rolling Stone, he said, “I don’t know. I don’t get involved in that. I’m the bass player. I just wait for someone to tell me what to do. Brad said what he said, but he’s one step above me. He’s in the No. 3 spot. I am the low man on the totem pole. That’s all I can tell you. I’m the bass player. The bass players always are the last people to find out about sh*t like that.”
Even with both statements, drummer Brad Wilk had previously announced on his personal social media account that RATM would no longer perform live. He said, “I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new dates for all the canceled RATM shows. I don’t want to string people or myself along any further. So, while there has been some communication that this may be happening in the future… I want to let you know that RATM (Tim, Zack, Tom, and I) will not be touring or playing live again. I’m sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was…”
Morello had also mentioned to Spin earlier that the band isn’t currently active, though he, Commerford, and Wilk have continued to work together often.
