Mike Portnoy recently declared Blood Incantation’s latest album, ‘Absolute Elsewhere,’ as his pick for Album of the Year in a post on Instagram.

Sharing the album’s artwork, which depicts pyramids and planets in a cosmic scene, he wrote: “Holy F*ck! Bravo, Blood Incantation on the incredible new album ‘Absolute Elsewhere!’ The brutality of Opeth meets the beauty of Pink Floyd…all in one Epic Prog Metal album (just two 20 min epics!) Definitely a contender for my AOTY! (PS – Greatest Logo Ever!)”

Released on October 4, ‘Absolute Elsewhere’ has been widely praised, especially in the UK, where it reached No. 3 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart and No. 15 on the UK Album Downloads chart.

Paul Riedl, the band’s singer and guitarist, described the record as their most ambitious yet: “‘Absolute Elsewhere’ is our most potent audial extract/musical trip yet; like the soundtrack to a Herzog-style sci-fi epic about the history of/battle for human consciousness itself, via a ’70s prog album played by a ’90s death metal band from the future.”

The first of the album’s two 20-minute tracks debuted as a single in September, accompanied by a short film directed by Michael Ragen. The album was produced by Arthur Rizk and recorded at Berlin’s Hansa Tonstudio, with contributions from Tangerine Dream’s Thorsten Quaeschning.

To support the release, Blood Incantation will kick off a tour on November 7 in Portland, OR, continuing through the rest of the year.
