The music world would be unthinkable without female voices. The unmistakable sound of Whitney Houston or Amy Winehouse is probably familiar to everyone. Taylor Swift, Madonna and Tina Turner are among the most successful singers of all time worldwide. In rock and Metal, on the other hand, male voices tend to dominate. But watch out! names like Tarja Turunen, Doro Pesch and Lzzy Hale are familiar to every rock/Metal fan. These bands show that female voices can rock the stage, too.

Just like these pioneering women in Metal, other industries are also opening up new possibilities. While female artists have made their mark in the music world, platforms like Richard Casino are making an impact in online gaming. With Richard Casino bonus codes offering special rewards, players can enjoy a fun and engaging experience, much like the excitement these Metal icons bring to the stage. Whether it’s the thrill of playing games or the energy of live music, both offer unforgettable experiences!

1. Evanescence (Amy Lee)

Amy Lee, lead singer of the American band Evanescence, is definitely a force to be reckoned with. She was just 14 years old when she formed the band with guitarist Ben Moody. In addition to her powerful voice, she also plays the piano, guitar and harp. The band’s breakthrough came in 2003 with their debut album Fallen. The songs Bring Me To Life and My Immortal, which are also included on this album, brought the band fame here in Germany.

    2. Halestorm (Lzzy Hale)

Lzzy Hale, yes, that’s right, Lzzy Hale without an ‘i’, actually Elizabeth Hale, founded the band Halestorm together with her brother Arejay Hale in 1997. Their sound is a mix of hard rock, Heavy Metal and alternative rock. In 2013, the band won a Grammy in the category Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for the song Love Bits (So Do I). Lzzy Hale is not only successful as a singer and guitarist. She also has her own fashion label.

      3. Nightwish (Tarja Turunen/Floor Jansen)

Tarja Turunen – Metal meets opera. She shaped Metal in her own unique way and was a pioneer of a sound that had never been heard before. She sang for Nightwish from the band’s formation in 1996 until 2005, combining Heavy Metal with poignant opera. After her acrimonious split from the band, she launched a successful solo singing career. She and Nightwish later reconciled, and she is said to get along excellently with the current frontwoman, Floor Jansen. With the Dutchwoman Floor Jansen, the Finnish symphonic Metal band once again got an exceptionally trained soprano in 2013. She started out as the lead singer of other bands as early as 1996, and she also does solo projects. After she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022, there was a brief fear for the band. However, Jansen recently announced that she had overcome breast cancer and would continue to be part of Nightwish. And that’s a good thing. It’s hard to imagine the Nordic male band without her. The constellation fits so well that hardly anyone talks about the separation from Tara Turunen anymore.

      4. Blondie (Debbie Harry)

Blondie, with frontwoman Debbie Harry, was one of the most influential new wave bands in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The band was founded in 1974 by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein in New York. With songs like Heart of Glass, Call Me, Atomic and Rapture, they shaped the sound of new wave and punk rock. In 2006, they were even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

      5. Arch Enemy (Angela Gossow)

Another German singer can hold her own in the Metal world. Angela Gossow was the lead singer of the Swedish band Arch Enemy from 2001 to 2014. But Arch Enemy and Angela Gossow have not completely parted ways. She may no longer hold the microphone, but she continues to work in the band’s management. At the end of 2023, she also announced that there will soon be new projects of her own. So we can look forward to it.

      6. Within Temptation (Sharon den Adel)

Another superwoman is Sharon den Adel. She is the voice of the Dutch Metal band Within Temptation, which she founded in 1996 together with guitarist Robert Westerholt. With over three million records sold worldwide, she is one of the most successful groups in her country. Despite this success, she is also the mother of three children, who she has with her bandmate Robert Westerholt.

      7. Paramore (Hayley Williams)

Paramore is an American rock band that was formed in 2004 by Hayley Williams, Josh Farro (guitar), Jeremy Davis (bass) and Zac Farro (drums). At the time, they were all still teenagers, but today they fill entire stadiums with their fans. Their music is a mix of pop punk, emo and alternative rock, and Williams’ powerful voice is instantly recognisable. Their big breakthrough came with their song Decode, which earned them worldwide fame as part of the soundtrack to the film Twilight. However, their most successful song is Ain’t It Fun from their 2013 album Paramore.

      8. Heart (Ann Wilson)

When the hard rock scene was dominated by men in the 70s, the two sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson attracted attention. They formed the band Heart in 1973 and showed the ‘tough guys’ that women can rock too. While her sister Nancy proves her skills on the guitar, Ann impresses with a powerful voice and the amazing range of her voice. She can bring down houses and melt hearts. With Dreamboat Annie (1976), Little Queen (1977) and Eponymous Smash (1985), they released a whole series of hit albums.

      9. Warlock (Doro Pesch)

Doro Pesch – the Queen Of Metal or the ‘mother of all Metal singers’. She is the front woman of the German Metal band Warlock, which was founded in 1982, and the first woman to really make it in the previously male-dominated Metal scene. Since the mid-’90s, she has also been successful as a solo artist.

      10. The Pretty Reckless (Taylor Momsen)

Taylor Momsen is perhaps better known to most from the series Gossip Girl. While she initially found success as an actress and model, she actually wanted to be a singer. When she formed her own band in New York in 2009 with her bandmates Ben Phillips (guitar & backing vocals), Mark Damon (bass) and Jamie Perkins (drums), she was initially ridiculed for this turn. But she quickly proved the doubters wrong. Due to legal issues, the name of the band was changed from The Reckless to The Pretty Reckless. Since then, they have released successful albums with top singles like Make Me Wanna Die (Light Me Up, 2010), Heaven Knows and Messed Up World (Going To Hell, 2014) and went on tour with acts like Marilyn Manson and Evanescence, among others.

      11. The Pretenders (Chrissie Hynde)

Formed in 1978, the English-American band The Pretenders was arguably one of the most consistent bands between 1979 and 2008. They regularly released albums and placed songs like Brass in Pocket in the charts. Chrissie Hynde is often mentioned in the same breath as Doro Pesch, Angela Gossow and Ann Wilson. She has a distinctive and smoky voice. This year marks the band’s 45th anniversary, and they are still making music together. Chrissie Hynde is also a solo singer.

Female voices in Metal and rock expand the genre with exciting nuances and create a very unique sound with high recognition value. From loud and smoky to empathetic and moving to tears. Which of the bands mentioned in this article do you like? Which front woman rocks the most in your opinion?
