French model Charlotte Martin had a confined childhood. She had to follow strict rules until she grew up. Martin created herself a way to escape this and decided to pursue a career as a model. She changed her name from Catherine to Charlotte and moved to London as a young woman who wanted to live without any boundaries.
Martin was a young, beautiful, and independent woman in 1960’s London. She started to do whatever she wanted to feel the sense of freedom she couldn’t have. Martin also caught the attention of famous rock stars with the help of her attractive look and self-confidence.
The Rock Stars Who Had A Relationship With Charlotte Martin
Charlotte Martin met with Eric Clapton at the Speakeasy Club and it was love at first sight. The couple had a happy relationship between 1965 and 1968. Everyone thought they were going to marry soon, but the couple broke up in 1968. According to some rumors and Pattie Boyd, Clapton and Martin broke up because Martin had sex with The Beatles’ George Harrison.
Charlotte saw Led Zeppelin icon Jimmy Page two years later. It was her 26th birthday, and she was introduced to him by Roger Daltrey and Heather Taylor. They fell in love and had a very complicated relationship for years. Page and Charlotte welcomed their daughter Scarlett on March 24, 1971, but their relationship ended in 1983.
In Clapton’s words, he said:
“At the Speakeasy Club, I had first met one of the great loves of my life, a very beautiful French model, Charlotte Martin. I was smitten with her from the very first moment I set eyes on her.”
Clapton’s and Harrison’s ex-wife Pattie Boyd recalled these times saying:
“I was friendly with a French girl Charlotte who was going out with Eric Clapton. She was always flirtatious with my husband George Harrison but so were a lot of girls and he, of course, loved it. Then she and Eric broke up – Eric told her to leave – and she came to stay with us at Kinfauns.”
Charlotte Martin is now married to Ernest D. Riall, and she’s a painter and artist.
