Doug Aldrich might not necessarily be a name you know off the top of your head, but he’s been an important part of metal history for someone who flies under the radar. He was the guitarist for Dio for four years from 2002-2006, and he spent 12 years as a guitarist for Whitesnake from 2002 through 2014. Currently, he plays lead guitar for a band called The Dead Daisies, which is a supergroup featuring former members of other big name metal bands, including former Mötley Crüe vocalist John Corabi. Last week, The Dead Daisies announced that Doug Aldrich had been diagnosed with treatable throat cancer and had to undergo surgery for it. Well, it seems that there’s good news following Aldrich’s surgery.

In a Facebook post on Friday from Doug’s wife Daniela “Danni” Aldrich (which doesn’t seem to be publicly available but which was reported on by Blabbermouth), Danni reported that Doug’s surgery looks to have gone well. "I just want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you who sent prayers, texts, and love for Doug,” wrote Danni in her post. “It truly meant the world to him to feel the outpouring of support. Your messages really lifted his spirits, and it made such a difference knowing how many people care about him.

"All your prayers were heard!" continued Danni. "The surgery went incredibly well—five long hours of multiple steps—but Doug pushed through like the fighter he is. Even the nurse called him a superhero for his strength and determination right after! He is the strongest person I know.

"It's going to be a long road ahead, but Doug is strong, and he is so loved. We are beyond grateful for all of you standing by his side through this. As soon as he's able, Doug will share more updates himself.

"Thank you again, from the bottom of our hearts!

"Also to everyone who cared about the kids and me. Thank you so much".

Because of Aldrich’s diagnosis and surgery, he won’t be able to attend The Dead Daisies’ upcoming European tour, and he will be replaced by fellow Whitesnake guitarist Reb Beach.

We’re overjoyed to hear that Aldrich’s surgery went well, and we wish him all the healing he needs in his upcoming recovery.
