Spiritbox singer Courtney LaPlante has spoken out against transphobia, addressing a fan’s comment on social media that said, “Spiritbox have made it, people are transvestigating Courtney.”

LaPlante responded, “I noticed a big push of that about 5-7 years ago when far-right people started obsessing over trans people for brain-dead reasons. Transphobia is never objective. If someone tries to insult me with that, I say ‘thanks,’ I’m not insulted.”

A fan from the LGBTQ+ community expressed gratitude for LaPlante’s stance, to which she replied, “I don’t even consider myself vocal, but for some reason, people obsessed with others’ genitals project that onto me. I’m just an artist who is very inspired by trans women. They move and influence the culture.”

Another user argued, “It’s not transphobia. It’s people being sick of having trans issues shoved in their face every day. Most on the right just want to get on with their lives while listening to Spiritbox.”

LaPlante responded, “I would say those people sound scared…almost like they have a phobic reaction, which helps create a narrative about an oppressed minority.”

This isn’t the first time LaPlante has addressed transphobia. Previously, she engaged with fans after Architects guitarist Adam Christian shared a post from commentator Tim Pool, referencing a video where MMA fighter Sean Strickland expressed negative views about having a gay son. Christian later deleted the post, calling it an ‘accident,’ though many fans noticed his past support of similar content.

When transphobic comments surfaced under Silent Planet frontman Garret Russell’s post, LaPlante told a user not to support Spiritbox anymore, saying, “Stay in YOUR lane and don’t cross into MY normal person lane. You can stop supporting my band.”

Spiritbox’s next show is on September 23 in Newark, New Jersey, and their tour will conclude on February 23 in Hamburg, Germany.
