During a recent Metallica show in Seattle, James Hetfield revealed the first concert he took his daughters to.
“I just noticed the last couple of shows here, there’s been like the age 5 to 12 is pretty huge. Pretty amazing and they’re up in the front and they’re awake the whole show and everything, man,” the frontman began his words.
“I remember going to my first… Well not really. I remember taking my girls to go see their first concert. They fell asleep and it was Hannah Montana but I’m saying nothing about it. I think I fell asleep, too but anyway,” Hetfield reflected on the Hannah Montana concert he went with his daughters.
Hetfield has two daughters: Marcella (22) and Cali (26). Hannah Montana is the main character of a TV show starring Miley Cyrus. It aired from 2006 to 2011. In the show, Cyrus played a girl named Miley Stewart, who secretly lived as the pop star Hannah Montana.
Cyrus toured as Montana from 2006 to 2008, performing in big venues like arenas. She also released music as Hannah Montana before using her real name. Her first album without the Hannah Montana name was ‘Breakout’ in 2008.
Years later, Miley was asked to cover Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’ for their ‘Blacklist’ album. She performed it live with the band on The Howard Stern Show. Cyrus first sang the song at Glastonbury Festival in 2019. It came after losing her home in the California wildfires and starting her divorce from Liam Hemsworth.
“I was so heartbroken, and my purpose was coming from this performance. I got sober at that time, I really pulled my f*cking sh*t together and this song was what drove me to that place,” Cyrus later said. “My life, in regards to love, was falling apart, but I had my love for music. So this is my love letter to music, that’s what it means to me.”
Metallica’s M72 World Tour continues in Mexico. After performing in Mexico City on September 29, they will have a concert in Los Angeles on December 13.
