In a recent tweet, Dino Cazares criticized the former singer while praising Milo Silvestro.
“Before I picked my new singer he was vetted thoroughly,” the guitarist wrote in his post. “I’ve learned my lesson with a past singer in one of my other bands.”
Cazares didn’t give a name but he might be referring to the Divine Heresy vocalist Tommy Vext. Vext left the band after a fight on stage on April 26, 2008. The reason for the fight is unclear, but Cazares said Vext was fired because of it.
According to a post on headbangersblog.com, at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem tour on July 13, Vext threw a beer at Dino and his wife, then started throwing punches at Cazares backstage.
“No words were said, nothing,” Cazares explained in a statement. “He hit me, and the one thing I could do was cover myself up to protect myself. I didn’t go down or nothin’, I just put my hands up and he kept swinging at me. And he grabbed my hair and pulled me down. He was giving me uppercuts and I was trying to get away but I couldn’t.”
Security stepped in and stopped the fight. After the sheriff threatened to arrest everyone, they went their separate ways. Cazares, however, had planned to take legal action against Tommy.
Cazares also had problems with the former Fear Factory singer Burton C. Bell. Bell left the group in 2020 to focus on his own band. Since the split, Bell and Cazares have exchanged insults. Fear Factory replaced him with Silvestro.
In a 2023 interview with the Talk Toomey podcast, Bell reflected on how he feels about his old band performing with a new singer, saying, “It doesn’t affect me at all. To be honest, I haven’t been this happy in a long time. More power to them, but I’m just moving forward in my own life, my own career, and I’m just trying to make a name for myself.”
Cazares previously said that Burton didn’t take care of his voice like other successful singers. Dino also mentioned that proper care and training could have helped Burton avoid voice issues.
