Justin Hawkins recently responded to reactions to his celebration of Oasis’s reunion announcement in a new video on YouTube. He addressed a comment that jokingly described his support for the band as ‘noble,’ considering how Liam Gallagher openly admitted to not liking The Darkness in the past.

“I saw this on Instagram, as well, at one point, and I was like, ‘So?’” the singer said. “Do you remember how ungracious they were when Michael Hutchence was giving them an award at the 1996 Brit Awards?” he recalled.

“And he was really excited ‘cause it was his favorite band, and he gave them an award, and then, they said – I think it’s Noel actually that said he was a has-been and that they were the new lifeblood of modern music or something. And you could see that Michael Hutchence was just heartbroken by it, and it was a really c*** thing to do.”

“But that is their modus operandi,” Hawkins shared. “If Oasis didn’t have a pop at me, I’d probably be the only person that didn’t. You know, at some point or another, everyone’s had a pop at me.”

The original comment and Justin Hawkins’ explanation referred to a 2006 interview in which Liam Gallagher answered a question from The Darkness.

The band had asked Gallagher as fans if he liked their music, to which he replied, “Do I like The Darkness? I like the first song that came out. And then, they said something about me. No. I can’t wait to bump into him someday. Probably lives nearby.”

Hawkins made it clear that he could support the Oasis reunion despite the singer’s words but also responded to the hate by mockingly impersonating him.

“But that’s on me ‘cause, you know, I can give it out, but I can’t fucking take it, can I, man?” he voiced over the old video. “I’d love to bump into them some time, I tell you why. They’re the greatest rock band in the fucking country, right now, man. Fucking ego!”

Oasis members took jabs at each other over the years, as well, with Liam and Noel Gallagher making headlines with their arguments. The band still reunited for a new UK and Ireland tour in 2025. The tour will take them to Cardiff, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Dublin next summer.
