Jason Hook and Corey Taylor recently teamed up for a track on Flat Black’s debut album, ‘Dark Side of the Brain.’ The collaboration sparked rumors that Taylor might become the lead vocalist for Hook’s new band.
“In my dreams,” the guitarist said, laughing at the topic in a recent chat with 101 WRIF. “I woke up going, ‘Oh!’”
He explained, “Look, you know, of course, I had fantasies of that; but here’s the truth; Corey Taylor does not need me. Period. He’s busy, and he’s got a lot of successful things happening. So, I was grateful to just have him help me and then contribute his vocal for the record.”
The Slipknot vocalist performed in the single, ‘Nothing to Some.’ The song came out through Fearless Records in March, but Hook told 99.7 The Blitz Radio Station in May that the two’s collaboration began back in 2020.
“He’s just a f*cking fantastic guy,” he commented. “Maybe he doesn’t want anyone to know that, but he’s actually a sweetheart.” [Laughs] “He’s a really sweet dude. And he was, like, ‘Look, if you’re trying to build something and you don’t have anyone to work with, I’ll write with you.’”
“So, it was just perfect for the time and the emotions I was going through at the time. He really helped bolster my spirit, like, ‘Yes, let’s do something.’ And we ended up doing five songs together. Four will probably never get heard, but we used ‘Nothing To Some’ on the record.”
Flat Black’s ‘Dark Side of the Brain’ was released on July 19. The band will support it with a tour this fall starting on September 28.
