Slayer has announced that they will be playing on the last day of The Riot Fest 2024. However, there are a few things about it.
After the rockers posted the announcement on Instagram, fans shared their confusion about the lineup, where Slayer plays the same day artists like Oliver Tree and Dr. Dog play.
“Terrible lineup. Most of those aren’t even metal bands,” a user wrote.
However, this wasn’t the only problem. Fans felt like they were scammed since the band announced back in 2019 that they would retire after the final shows.
“Whoever went to the ‘final’ show in Inglewood was scammed big time,” one user said.
Another wrote: “Am I the only one that feels scammed after attending one of their ‘final’ concerts?”
Another fan resembled the band’s final shows to Scorpions’ farewell: “Slayer like Scorpions? 10-year farewell tour?!”
Although fans felt like the band lied about the final shows, Kerry King earlier said that they never said a ‘final tour.’
“Of course, a month after we were done, offers come in because people think you’re done. So what we retired from was touring. We never said we were done playing,” the guitarist explained during an interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio. “We said, ‘This is our final tour,’ and I don’t think three shows constitute a tour. So if you wanna get technical, I think we’re in the ballpark of being truthful.”
In addition to Riot Fest, Slayer will take place in Louder Than Life Festival and Aftershock Festival this year. It’s unclear whether or not the band will be playing any other shows after the festivals.
