Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea sat down with Team Coco for a new interview and admitted to having been praying before every live show.
While discussing how he feels before every show, the rocker revealed that he lets God speak through him for a better performance.
“On my knees praying before every show,” the bassist said. “I don’t get nervous. Sometimes I get like if I haven’t prepared properly, I get concerned just of like the physical tactile part of playing just to have increased the wheels enough by practicing a lot.”
When asked if he ever gets unprepared on stage, Flea responded, “No, it’s rarely the case. I’m pretty diligent about my stuff, but I don’t get nervous.”
RHCP puts a lot to their live shows physically. And the physical movement requires a regular pre-show ritual.
Both the frontman Anthony Kiedis and Flea have different rituals before the shows. However, praying isn’t the only thing Flea does regularly.
Kiedis warms up his voice with exercises and maintains it with a special diet. “And then I have to run or stretch or do push-ups or wrestle Flea or something to get my blood flowing,” he said during an interview with Rolling Stone. “You can’t go from zero to 100 miles per hour without preparing.”
In addition to praying, Flea gets ready by running around the arena before the show. “I’m pretty intense about it,” he says.
