Jack Black returned to the big screen as the voice of Claptrap in the upcoming ‘Borderlands’ film. He recently announced the project starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart on Instagram as follows:

“Biggest mouth in the galaxy. ‘Borderlands’ movie – experience it in theaters and IMAX on August 9. Get tickets now!”

First Project After His Band’s Breakup

The announcement came right after Tenacious D’s breakup because of Kyle Gass’s controversial remark about an attempted assassination on Donald Trump. Some fans under his recent post criticized the singer:

“You sold Kyle out for this??”

One person wrote:

“Breaking up a band and friendship of over 20 years is absolutely insane.”

Fans Are Blaming Black

An attacker tried to kill Donald Trump during an election campaign in July but could only shoot his ear. Kyle Gass joked on the incident during an Australian show by saying ‘don’t miss Trump next time.’

Tenacious D canceled their tour following the backlash, and many blamed Jack Black for not backing up his bandmate. A user on Instagram commented:

“Perhaps Kyle shouldn’t have said out loud what so many millions were already thinking, but that’s not reason enough to disband Tenacious D.”

Another one added:

“That moment when Jack Black realized he threw Kyle under the bus for people who weren’t even fans of Tenacious D.”

Tenacious D’s Comments On The Controversy

An Australian senator called for the band’s visas to be revoked after the concert footage went viral. Black later said in a statement that he was ‘blindsided by what was said at the show’ and ‘would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.’

An apology from Gass followed:

“The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake. I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone. What happened was a tragedy, and I’m incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I’ve let down and truly regret and pain I’ve caused.”

The guitarist deleted his post later that week, though.
