It is the final day of Download Festival 2024, and we have been awoken to the news that the arena will open slightly later due to the organisers working hard to make the ground more accessible.
Upon entering the site at 12 pm, the fields of muddy splodge have been turned into a blanketed haybale. Our gracious thanks go out to all those who worked through the night and morning to make it possible.
So, onto the big finish! Lord Of The Lost welcomed the day on the Apex as thousands of punters raced cautiously down the hill and to the front of the stage. The German-based gothic, Industrial Metal band are my new obsession and just the tip of the iceberg of acts to add to the ever-growing list of never-listened-to-before artists.
But that is the beauty of festivals. Not just going to see who you paid to see but to introduce yourself to so much more. The takeaway is as much as the experience.
With the weekend rain forecasted to be over, Downloaders grapple to grasp every last memorable antic they can before the long wait for next year’s event begins. So feast on the food, battle down with every possible act to be seen and squeeze those last bits of energy out.
This year has seen the Download grow again into more of a city than a town.
Filled with all the delights a horn-wielding, beer-loving, heavy music fanatic could want and more.
