Slayer went on their "farewell" tour from May 2018 to November 2019. Among the opening bands on the 2018 North American portion of the tour were Anthrax, whose lineup includes a now-annoyed Scott Ian.

In a new interview with Classic Rock, Ian said he sent off a miffed email to guitarist Kerry King upon seeing that Slayer would reunite for (so far) three festival appearances this year. Not over the fact that Slayer is back, but over Slayer's insistence that their 2018 and 2019 tour would be the actual end of the band.

"I wrote to Kerry and said: 'Thanks for making me look like a liar.' We were on Slayer's goodbye tour for over a hundred shows. During that year and a half together, I got the sense that if they said were ending, then that's what was happening. Personally, I felt it was too soon — the world needs Slayer — but I took them at their word on that. I really felt that they would be the one band that when they said they were retiring, they'd be done for good."

Ian added: "He wrote back saying: 'Hahaha. Hey, it's just three shows.' I replied: 'Yeah, we'll see.'"

In the same interview, Ian also briefly touched on Anthrax's upcoming record, only noting that it's "the most aggressive one we've made since maybe Persistence Of Time." Which should be enough to excite just about any Anthrax fan.
