Kerry King's long-awaited solo project is slowly coming into view. King's new band – titled Kerry King – recently announced their first-ever show at Welcome To Rockville 2024 as well as unveiled their logo. Now in an interview with Metal Hammer, King unveils some details about what to expect musically.

King said his new band picks up where Slayer left off, noting that a lot of the material probably would've made the next Slayer record if the band kept going. So if you've been dying for a follow-up to Repentless, this is basically it.

"If I was ever to try anything different, I guess that would be the time," said King. "But no, I really have no desire to do anything different. If I wasn't in Slayer, I would be a Slayer fan. So yes, I think it's an extension of Slayer, and I think a lot of people will think it might have been the next record. I guess maybe 80% of it would have been, maybe it would have been exactly what I'm putting on this one. In my eyes, I think it's a definite extension, a follow-up to [Slayer's 2015 final album] Repentless for sure."

As for what it'll entail musically, King said it's pretty diverse. So again – basically what Slayer had been up to their whole career, or at least as far how King is interpreting it. "There's definitely some fast stuff on it. It's not the fastest thing I've ever done, but I've done some pretty fast stuff. There's definitely some Herculean speeds getting achieved on this, but there's heavy stuff. There's punky stuff. There's doomy stuff. Pretty much any aspect of any kind of music we've done in our history, I think you'll find on this record."

As for who's in the band, King remains tight lipped. All we know for certain thus far are two things – former Slayer drummer Paul Bostaph is absolutely in the band, and former Slayer guitarist Gary Holt really wishes we'd stop insinuating he's in the band. He's not. For real, we promise.
