Jim Root has contributed to Slipknot since his joining in January 1999 and has gained fame over the years with his role in the band. Now, the guitarist is one of the few original members left in Slipknot. Today, we are listing six facts about the rocker that every Slipknot fan should know.

He Played in a Thrash Metal Band Before Slipknot

Well, though he is now known for his role in Slipknot, it was not his first band. Before joining Slipknot, the guitarist took place in a thrash metal band called Atomic Opera in the role of the lead guitarist.

Root Was In A Relationship With the Lacuna Coil Singer

Jim Root was involved in a highly publicized relationship with the lead singer of Lacuna Coil, Cristina Scabbia. The Two started dating in 2004, and the end of their relationship was confirmed when Scabbia made a post in 2018 on her Instagram in which she mentioned she ended a 13 year old relationship.

Root Is A Pop Music Fan

You might think how one can be in a metal band and adore pop music? Though you might know that he is into Brit-pop and indie pop bands such as Radiohead, Blur, and Oasis, his love for a certain modern pop musician also seems to be on.

Apparently, some people from the band’s management company were listening to a pop singer that left Root shocked for its ‘awesomeness,’ only to find out later that it was Ariana Grande.

Root is Left Handed

Yes, Root is playing a right-handed guitar, but he is actually a lefty. According to him, it is the muscle memory that keeps him from playing left-handed guitars and the fact that it does not feel comfortable.

Jim Root Has a Signature Line of Guitars

Root started his music career in the early 90s and has had many changes in his gear throughout his career. The guitarist has included many Fender gear in his setup throughout the years and eventually teamed up with the brand for a signature line of his own guitars.

Root Played Bass on ‘.5: The Gray Chapter’

A year after the release of ‘.5: The Gray Chapter,’ the rocker revealed that he played bass in the album for ‘six, maybe seven tracks.’ The album came out after the passing of the band’s original bassist, Paul Gray and marked the first to be featured without two original members.
