While many metal musicians have made their mark on the genre, their children are now stepping onto the stage, determined to carve out their own path in the world of heavy metal.
Today, we’ll take a closer look at some of the metal bands that the offspring of iconic metal musicians have founded. These young talents are not just following in their parents’ footsteps; they’re bringing their energy and creativity to the metal scene. Let’s dive into the six bands we chose and discover the next generation of metal music.
Taipei Houston
Formed in 2021, Taipei Houston is a two-piece garage-rock band helmed by people with the same last name. The Ulrich brothers Myles and Layne, you guessed it, the sons of Lars Ulrich, formed the band, Despite their father’s world-renowned metal band, they focus on making softer music than Metallica’s.
Shvpes
Although they decided to end their career with the band in 2020, Shvpes lasted for a good 11 years. Focusing more on a metalcore sound, the band consisted of Griffin Dickinson as the frontman, also known as the son of the Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson. If you’re into metalcore, Shvpes is one of the must-check bands.
Falset
The Canadian band is comprised of Zach Copeland, Braeden Kozy, Riley Fields, and Chance LaBrie, the son of the Dream Theater singer James LaBrie. Although Chance is on the same track of making music just like his father, he does not follow in his father’s footsteps in singing. Instead, he sat behind the drum kit to be a part of the band.
Their studio album ‘We Follow or Lead the Way’ combines the elements of metalcore, djent, and modern rock and metal all together. If you are into heavier music with different elements, this band is for you.
Wargasm
Sam Matlock, one-half of the British electronic nu-metal and post-hardcore rock duo Wargasm, formed the band with the model Milkie Way. Combining the sounds of different genres, the duo makes music more similar to the new wave of nu-metal. Considering being the son of the original Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock, it’s predictable for Sam to follow in his father’s footsteps.
