Disturbed vocalist David Draiman has had a remarkable career since he joined the band in 1994. Disturbed has achieved success in the 21st century, that’s worth noting, with 17 singles reaching the top spot on Active Rock radio. With this list, you’ll explore some lesser-known facts about David Draiman.

7. Disturbed Was ‘Brawl’ Before Its Fame

What we now know as Disturbed has not always been called ‘Disturbed.’ Draiman auditioned for a band named Brawl after seeing in a local newspaper that their latest singer, Erich Awalt, quit the band and that they were looking for a new singer. He was eventually hired, and today, the band is known by its current name.

6. Draiman Is A Triple Major

While some musicians start their music career during early ages, some start after they have achieved different things in life. In this case, the latter applies to Draiman. The rocker has majored in business administration, philosophy, and political science at Loyola University in Chicago.

5. The Fans Mean More Than Just Fans— They Are His ‘Blood’

Showing his appreciation for his fans many times on stage, Draiman doesn’t just call his fans ‘fans.’ He refers to them as ‘my brothers, my sisters, my blood.’ The rocker has been using the exact words for his fans for over ten years to make it clear that his fans mean much more to him than just people who listen to his music.

4. Draiman Considered Being an Attorney

The rocker had other goals for his life before deciding to become a musician. Before the beginning of his music career, Draiman was accepted to many law schools and almost pursued a career as a criminal defense attorney, but he couldn’t handle the thought of lying for a living and defending individuals he knew were guilty.

3. ‘Inside the Fire’ Is Dedicated to His Ex Who Committed Suicide

During his high school years, the rocker had to witness his girlfriend pass away due to an intentional heroin overdose. After his experience with losing a loved one, Draiman fell down the rabbit hole to become an addict himself. Eventually, he decided to get clean after nearly overdosing, waking up almost frozen under a car with no knowledge of how he got there.

As a result of his experience, the rocker decided to write the song, ‘Inside the Fire,’ which was dedicated to his girlfriend.

2. Draiman Had Surgery On His Damaged Valve

Having gone through several surgeries throughout his life, the rocker had to undergo surgery to repair the damaged valve in his throat that was ejecting acid onto his vocal cords. The valve, which was supposed to control the flow of acid and prevent it from going too high up, had completely herniated. According to the rocker’s words, the surgery went well and even increased his vocal range to an extent.

1. ‘Prayer’ Music Video Was Spent Half a Million Dollars

Taking place in their 2002 album, ‘Believe,’ ‘Prayer’ marks to be one of the more known songs of the band. In the music video of the song, Draiman appears to be seeing a prostitute, a homeless man, and a preacher forecasting the end of the world, followed by car crashes, fights, and construction site explosions. For the 21-year-old music video, the band spent half a million dollars.
