Trivium frontman Matt Heafy will be composing the score for the upcoming horror/comedy sequel Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon.
Heafy, is known for his signature blend of heavy guitars, soaring vocals, and cinematic orchestrations, and that certainly makes him the perfect choice to create a score that will complement the film's unique blend of gore, humor, and metal.
Director Jason Lei Howden has already expressed his confidence in Heafy's abilities, stating: "Matt is not only a metal savant but also a genuine horror enthusiast. His ability to capture the various needs of the film and bring it to life via the score is something I believe will blow audiences out of their seats."
Heafy himself is equally excited about the project: "I have wanted to score Deathgasm since seeing the first film. I am a huge fan of all of Jason's work. I truly believe I can execute his exact vision for the music for this film. I also already hear the soundtrack in my head. I know we will need vastly varying styles of metal, as well as some orchestral/industrial soundtrack style pieces, and more. It's going to be a blast!"
The film's plot continues the story of Brodie, a down-and-out metalhead who uses a demonic spell to resurrect his dead bandmates in a bid to win back his ex-girlfriend and win a big music competition. But things don't go as planned, and Brodie and his undead bandmates find themselves fighting off a zombie army.
The film is being produced in New Zealand by Nick Garrett of Fish.Ent and Grant Bradley of Aristos Films, with L.A.-based director BJ McDonnell (Hatchet 3, Studio 666) attached as Executive Producer. Toronto-based genre film specialist Raven Banner is on board to help with world sales and oversee production of the physical goods for the crowdfunding campaign.
For fans of vinyl, there's more good news: a double-disc vinyl release of the Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon soundtrack is in the works. The first disc will feature music from various artists on the soundtrack, while the second disc will feature Heafy's compositions. The first film's soundtrack included bands like Axeslasher, Bulletbelt, Skull Fist, and Ihsahn of the Norwegian black metal group Emperor, which Heafy collaborated with on his black metal side project Ibaraki.
To help raise money for the film, a crowdfunding campaign is underway on Kickstarter. Backers of the campaign will receive an exclusive red vinyl edition of the soundtrack.
