John Lydon recently shared details about his declining health in an interview with Radio 4. Talking about the titanium implants he once chose to fix his dental problems, Lydon explained:
“They’re not what they’re cracked up to be. They forgot to mention to me you’re still supposed to brush your teeth.”
The singer confirmed that he can only eat liquid and soft food, saying:
“Well, bad things have happened. The gums have receded, and the teeth have got nothing of substance to keep hold of. That’s why I’m gritting my teeth when I speak. And I can’t chew hard things, and I shouldn’t anyway.”
In the past months, Lydon also revealed that he had been dealing with drinking problems following his wife Nora’s death. The former Sex Pistols member told the XS Noize Podcast that he stopped drinking after realizing it didn’t help him ‘push the sadness away.’
He also credited his late wife for him ‘getting better’ by adding:
“I’m focusing more on doing things right rather than selfishly saddened. If Nora’s around and she’s looking at me, the last thing she wants to see is me crying into a bottle of whiskey. But it’s a thing you definitely have to do. I’ll tell you, you have to go through that. You have to do that because it’s just too overwhelming otherwise.”
At the heels of Nora’s passing, Lydon released the song ‘Hawaii’ with Public Image Ltd as a tribute to her. Following that, the full album, ‘End of World,’ came out in August.
